A massive cherry blossom festival near Toronto is coming next month

With unseasonably warm temperatures over the past month, cherry blossoms fanatics across Toronto are on stand-by to spring into action once the picturesque pink trees officially reach their peak bloom.

If you're ready to soak up every bit of the pink paradise that pops up for only a few weeks every year, you'll definitely want to keep the Burlington Sakura Festival on your radar.

The Burlington Mundialization Committee is hosting the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) festival in honour of Burlington's twin city, Itabashi, Japan.

You can take part in the centuries-old tradition of hanami, which is the Japanese term for "flower viewing" at Spencer Smith Park.

The event invites you to witness the park's row of floral paradise, which is comprised of 40 delicate cherry blossom trees that form a pink canopy over your head.

The festival also features a Japanese drumming performance, a karate demonstration, and a Koto performance.

Cherry blossoms, which are called sakura in Japan, typically bloom at the end of April to early May.

The one-day and completely free festival takes place on May 13 starting at 1 p.m. The event begins at The Burlington Performing Arts Centre located at 440 Locust Street.

Meanwhile in Toronto, High Park is expected to be the epicentre of cherry blossom mania once the trees reach peak bloom, so if you're looking for a less-crowded place to enjoy the pink trees, make sure to visit Trinity Bellwoods, the Port Lands, Birkdale Ravine, or Broadacres Park.
