A soon-to-be-released iPhone app wants to make it easier for the average citizen to share breaking news. Inspired by CNN iReport and a host of other ways news organizations are trying to tap into their community to discover and generate local news, photos and videos, the team behind Posterboard thinks they have come up with a better solution.

Posterboard is one of the many mobile apps that have recently emerged from The Next 36, an innovative Toronto-based program that's funding the next wave of Canadian entrepreneurial talent. Like others in the program, the four person team behind Posterboard were given $50,000 to make their idea a reality.

What they've come up with is an easy to use application that anyone can use to upload real-time and geo-specific photos that can then be used (and possibly purchased) by news organizations. In other words, there may be a monetary incentive offered to those who report the news, providing, of course, that news organizations are willing to foot the bill.
