Local classic rock revivalists Flash Lightnin have been holed up in the warm, shadowy depths of The Dakota Tavern for quite some time now. You can catch them there every Wednesday night. Other than that residency (and a mysterious deal with Flash Records), they are virtually unknown in Toronto.

Until now. It appears as though two high profile bands have taken a liking to their sound: Halifax alt-rock sensations Wintersleep (who asked Flash Lightnin to open for them at the Phoenix last week) and Metric, who wrangled them for their sold out Sound Academy gig tomorrow night.

I spoke to Darren Glover from the band about apostrophes, playing dice with Jimmy, and boots.

blogTO: Why are you called Flash Lightnin? Why no apostrophe?

Darren Glover: Good question!

How would you describe your music using only one adjective? What about using one noun?

Adjective = Fried. Noun = Chicken.

How long have you held your residency at the Dakota?

Four weeks into season two.

You're opening for Metric. How did you get the gig?

Shootin' dice with Jimmy and he won. He always wins.

What do you like best about living in Toronto?

It's flat, you can ride your bike.

What do you like least?

The hill at the bottom of St Clair.

What's your preferred method of transportation in the city?

Boots.

Who are your favourite local bands?

ZZ Top.

Do you own Flash Records? Do you have a record out right now?

Yes & no.
