"Cowboy Del Amor"- Documentary

Toronto Premiere at the Bloor Cinema.

Have you ever wondered how the concept of Mail Order Brides worked? Have you ever wondered who would go through the trouble of finding a life partner in another country and not even speak the same language? Cowboy Del Amor is the real life story of one lonely rancher in Okalahoma, who helps American men find wives in Mexico.

For a small fee, Ivan Thompson takes lonely bachelors across the border into Mexico and interviews potential wives-to-be. The outcome is never predictable- some men find their soul mates in one trip, others have to wait longer until the right woman can come along. Highlights of this film follow three couples and their destinies. One happily married American even says- I'm not going to learn Spanish and she's not going to learn English, so we won't ever argue.

This isn't a film about the commodification of women; this is a hilarious and compelling insight into the search for love and companionship. The film gives a voice to American men looking for companionship and understanding from Mexican women, and to Mexican women looking for a brighter future and respect from an American man. Directed by filmmaker Michele Ohayon, this film is an insightful and uplifting look into combating loneliness and the hope that there is someone out there for everybody, even if you have to cross borders to find him or her. It is scheduled for a February 2006 release.
