Cinematheque's Winter Season

The winter months just got a whole lot brighter, baby. Cinematheque Ontario has just announced its new season...and the new season is a thing of beauty. It all kicks off on Friday, January 14 with a couple of Sergio Leone's better pieces: A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. If you can't get excited about the "spaghetti western" genre, or Clint Eastwood, you don't deserve the eyeballs in your head. The "Man With No Name" trilogy ends with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Tuesday, January 18th. These films made Clint Eastwood a cultural icon and cemented his role as the meanest man in the West.

The rest of the films in the calendar are even more exciting. In February, there will be a retrospective on influential German filmmaker F.W. Murnau, as well as a selection of films by Agnes Varda. Cinematheque will even delve into Jean-Luc Godard's impressive library with the Candian Premiere of Moments choisis des histoire(s) du cinema. Even though Godard has gone crazy, it is your duty as Torontonian cinephiles to check out his latest work.

For more information on these or other films being screened by Cinematheque Ontario, visit the year-round Box Office: Manulife Centre, 55 Bloor Street West (main floor, north entrance), call the Bell Infoline at 416-968-FILM, or visit the official website: www.bell.ca/cinematheque.
