Fashion and Art Workz

Last night, I attended a fundraiser for the Queen West art scene. It was put on by The Bohemian Embassy with Fashion Workz and it showcased a broad range of artistic mediums, including fashion, music, dance and visual art. The Embassy also used the event to advertise their upcoming loft community.

Much of the visual art was displayed between advertisements for the loft community, and inside model suites to showcase both the artwork and the Bohemian Embassy lifestyle, which they're trying to sell to artists and patrons of the arts. But how many Queen West artists can afford $400,000 for a living space? Maybe that's why they're having a fundraiser.

The fashion segment, which was put together by Fashion Workz creator, Nicollette Reid, featured Rococo's spring and summer 2007 collection, jewellery by Jessica Gorlicky, and evening wear created by up and coming designer Clare Nisker. Clare is a self taught designer --my favourite kind-- who designs and produces dresses for Edith's Fashions.

Laura Furtado, creator of "Strip to Fit", performed a dance number involving folding chairs, fishnets and a cover of Justin Timberlake's Sexyback. Strip to Fit is a company that teaches sensual dance as exercise. They were offering free lessons as part of a prize package, but for the price of two beers, you could learn all these moves and more at your local gentlemen's club.
