Shot of Art: Show & Tell with a tank

Jannick Deslauriers' latest installation, on display right now at Show & Tell Gallery, offers a subtle lesson on the dangers of oppositional thinking all the while seducing the viewer to think in those very terms. Composed of a nearly life-sized tank fashioned out of fabric, "What's Left?" gestures to conceptual pairs — like hard/soft, gentle/rough, war/peace, light/dark, innocence/experience — but only to complicate them. This is after all, a likeness of a tank, but one in which the only threat is rendered by its form (rather than its function). In that sense, it becomes a bit like a memory floating in the middle of the gallery, both completely safe and dangerous at once.
